Embracing the Chaos: My Ways to Live a Positive Life as a Mom, Wife, and Special Education Teacher

Life is full – like bursting at the seams full. Between juggling the roles of mom, wife, and special education teacher, it can feel like I’m constantly running from one thing to the next. But somewhere along the way, I’ve discovered that living a positive life isn’t about having it all perfectly together — it’s about finding joy in the middle of the beautiful mess.

Here are the ways I embrace positivity every day, even when life feels like a whirlwind:

1. Walk it Out

Daily walks have become my personal therapy sessions. There’s something about breathing in fresh air, feeling the sunshine on my face, and letting the world melt away for a little while. But my walks aren’t quiet strolls — oh no! They’re often soundtracked by my favorite uplifting music, and if you happen to drive past me singing out loud or dancing down the sidewalk… sorry (but not really)!

2. Create Your Own Creative Outlet

We all need a place to let our thoughts and feelings land. For me, blogging and journaling have become lifelines. Whether I’m pouring out my heart or just jotting down the little moments that made me smile, writing helps me process life in a healthy way.

I also love coloring and word searches — they’re simple, calming, and give my busy brain a much-needed break. Find what creative outlet works for you — it’s not about being perfect, it’s about giving yourself space to create.

3. Practice Gratitude Daily

Even on the craziest days (and trust me, there are plenty), I always try to pause and think about what I’m grateful for. My family, my students, the small wins, even a quiet cup of coffee before the house wakes up — those blessings are everywhere, if we just take the time to notice.

4. Don’t Take Life Too Seriously

Mistakes? I’ve made plenty — and I’m sure there are more to come. But instead of beating myself up, I’ve learned to laugh at the slip-ups, the mix-ups, and the “what was I thinking?” moments. Life is too short to be your own worst critic. Give yourself the grace you so easily give to others.

5. Share Your Smile (and Your Kindness)

A smile and a kind word can work wonders — for yourself and for others. Whether it’s your family, a student who’s having a tough day, or the stranger in the grocery store, kindness creates a ripple effect.

You never know when your smile is exactly what someone else needed to brighten their day.

Embrace the Imperfectly Beautiful Life

Being a busy mom, wife, and special education teacher isn’t easy — but it’s full of purpose, laughter, and love. Living a positive life isn’t about being perfect. It’s about dancing when no one’s watching (or when they are), celebrating small wins, forgiving yourself when things go sideways, and remembering that you are enough — exactly as you are.
